Holiday Concert

Our annual holiday concert will feature “The Ballad of the Brown King”, a Christmas cantata written by Chicago composer, Margaret Bonds, with a text by Langston Hughes. The piece, which was written in the 1950s and makes use of popular styles of the day, was originally composed as a solo song, was developed into a fully orchestrated cantata by Bonds, and published in a simple piano/vocal score in 1961. MTS will perform Bond’s recently realized original manuscript of the vocal parts. Along with other carols and songs, we will present Kirke Mechem’s carol arrangement, “The Seven Joys of Christmas”. This concert will be a wonderful start to your Holiday Season.

Spring Concert

Yes, this year the Maestro turns 60! He has chosen some of his own favorite choral arrangements and original compositions for the final concert, including the premier of “The Pobble,” based on the Edward Lear poem “The Pobble Who Has No Toes.” The evening’s festivities will close with the Maestro’s choice: William Schuman’s “Choruses from the Baseball Opera, The Mighty Casey.” For this event, we will be joined by FUMC music director, Shawn Dawson, pianist, Lori Mackie, and singer/composer Philip Seward.
